Vinous Neal Martin - 18 Aug 22
The 1943 Climens has a much fresher bouquet compared to the 1942. Well-defined scents of barley sugar, lemon, a touch of hazelnut, coconut and quince emerge with time. The palate is very elegant and refined on the entry, dried mango, spice, ginger, hints of coconut and wild peach. There is more botrytis here than the 1942, quite energetic with a dash of spice towards the mellifluous finish. This is a great Climens that belies its age. Tasted November 2009 at the Château Climens vertical in Zurich.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
